摘要
学术英语成为近年来我国大学英语课程建设的重要内容,但对本科生的学术英语写作体裁意识和体裁特征研究相对匮乏。本文基于Santos(1996)语步模式对化工专业本科毕业论文和国际权威期刊论文英文摘要的宏观语步结构和微观语言特征进行分析。研究表明,二者在必选语步上存在差异,本科生论文摘要中背景语步普遍使用不当;国际期刊摘要中时态和语态使用虽有语步差异,但都力图凸显研究本身及其成果发现,体现了摘要的推销功能。本研究对于本科生学术英语读写教学和化工类论文的国际发表具有借鉴意义。
English for academic purposes(EAP)has become an important component of college English course construction in recent years in China.However,little attention has been paid to the studies on genre awareness of novice writers and genre features of their English academic written texts,undergraduate students particularly.Based on the move pattern proposed by Santos(1996),we have conducted an analysis of the move structure and linguistic features of abstracts in chemical engineering undergraduates’theses with reference to the research articles published in international authoritative journals in the same field.Results indicate that there is a significant difference in their choices of the obligatory moves and that most novice writers fail to use the background move appropriately.Despite the variations in tense and voice among different moves,abstracts of internationally published articles highlight the study itself and its findings and achievements,which demonstrates the promotional role of abstracts.The current study has some implications for the teaching of EAP reading and writing at undergraduate level and for international publication of papers in chemical engineering.
