摘要
文学作品中的人物绰号既具有品评人物的功能,也能展现人物的身份、地位以及形象地反映人物的性格和心性。《红楼梦》中,许多人物都有特色鲜明的绰号。本文以杨宪益和霍克斯的《红楼梦》两个英文译本为例,从顺应论的角度出发,对《红楼梦》中的人物绰号翻译进行比较研究。作者从语境关联成分、结构对象、动态性、意识突显性四个角度出发,比较分析了这两个英文译本人物绰号翻译的顺应性。结果发现,二人在四个角度各有侧重,采取的翻译方法也不尽相同。本文对文学作品中的人物绰号翻译研究提供了有益参考。
The nickname in literary works not only has the function of evaluating the character,but also can show the character’s identity,status and vividly reflect the character.Many characters in Dream of the Red Chamber have distinctive nicknames.Taking Yang Xianyi and David Hawkes’English translation versions as examples,this paper makes a comparative study on the nickname translation of characters in Dream of the Red Chamber from the perspective of adaptation theory.From the perspectives of contextual relevance,structural object,dynamics and consciousness prominence,the author makes a comparative analysis of the adaptation of these two translation versions.The results show that the two scholars have different emphases from four angles and adopt different translation methods.This paper provides a useful reference for the study of the translation of nicknames in literary works.
