The importance of supercritical fluid extraction(SFE),a new separation technology,and its application and progresses in the field of natural product processing,especially essential oil extraction,are summarized,the advantages of SFE as compared with conventional separation technologies are discussed,and the development tendency of SFE is forecasted with 23 refs.
