摘要
我馆在1958年—1978年配合各项基本建设工程,先后在城东南郊的百子畈、七里界大队、洋澜湖电排站、西南郊鄂城钢铁厂范围内、五里墩等工地共发掘战国时期的墓葬三十座(图一)。由于发掘的墓地较分散,发掘时间先后不一,因此,这里将鄂城钢铁厂范围内发掘的二十四座墓在墓号前加一"钢"字,简称为钢1、钢2、钢4、钢18、钢21、钢22、钢41、钢42、钢48、钢49、钢53、钢68、钢74、钢79、钢80、钢90、钢91、钢92、钢93、钢94、钢95、钢96、钢106、钢119;市郊区百子畈大队发掘的四座墓,在墓号前加一"百"字,简称为百3、百4、百5、百6;
Thirty Chu State tombs were excavated at Baizitian and Qilijie in the southeasternsuburb and at Wulidun in the southwestern suburb of Echeng by the Echeng CountyMuseum from 1958 to 1978.All the tombs are shaft pits,and most of them are small onesmeasuring about only 3 metres long and 2 metres wide.Among them 5 tombs measure over5 metres long and 4 metres wide with double wooden inner coffins,one within another,enclosed in outer wooden coffins on the bottom.The largest one of the five is Tomb No.4at Baizitian.It measures at bottom 6.1 metres long and 4.8 metres wide.Besides the innerand outer wooden coffins of the owner,it also contains two subordinate coffins of the vic-tims buried with the owner.Tomb No.3 at B aizitian has a sloping tomb passage and acoffin of the victim buried with the owner of the tomb,and well-preserved Tomb No.5 atthe same place contains two coffins of such victims.These three tombs have altogether fivesuch coffins of victims,each containing the skeleton of a young girl.These young girls mightbe the personal servant-maids of the tomb owners in life time.About 500 furerary objects unearthed include pottery,bronze and lacquer wares,woodenand jade articles.According to the forms of the tombs and the combinations of pottery,these thirty tombs may be divided into three periods:the middle Warring States,the lateWarring States.and the late Qin Dynasty and the early Western Han Dynasty,with thebeginning of the last named dynasty as the lower limit of the period.The forms of thetombs and the funerary objects of each of the three periods are basically similar to thoseChu State tombs and their funerary objects of the corresponding periods excavated in Hubeiand Hunan Provinces,though not without some individual differences.
