摘要
在中国文化发展史上,出现过很多的回流和波折,也出现过很多文化嬗传和突变,这些都是不以人们本身的意志为转移的。在文化发展的长河中,许多支流伴主流而行,有时支流汇入了主流,有时又为主流挤走;有时支流和主流混为一体,甚至取代了主流。这些都是发人深思的文化命题。本文所要讨论的正是印度的佛教文化这一支流是如何介入中国文化,渗透、混合于中国文化的生命体系业出神入化地与之血肉相融,成为中国本体文化的。这当然是一个文化学和人类学(Culturology and Anthropology)的研究题目。佛教与中国文化的关系已经有无数学者写过汗牛充栋的文章。本文则试图采取一个全新的角度,从文化的传播(diffusion)、接受(Receiver)、涵化(Acculturation)、同化(assimila-
The introduction of Buddhism into China and its popularization here was
a prolonged process of acculturation, and it has generally been accepted as the
only case in Chinese history where an alien religion, with much effort as well
as accommodation, has successfully come to stay and become part of the indigen-
ous culture. In this essay the writer tries to offer his interpretation to tis
historical phenomenon.
