摘要
本文主要探讨中文歇后语的英文译名及翻译方法.作者认为,应该从歇后语的本质而不是从它所使用的修辞手段(如比喻、双关等)来确定一种符合英语命名原则的译名,并对不同类型的歇后语的翻译方法提出了应遵循的原则.
The paper proposes a new term for Chinese xiēhòuyǔ (previously translated as 'Chinese enigmatic folk similes' or 'quiz-cracks' in English literature) and some principles for its translation in English. The author points out that a proper English term for Chinese xiēhòuyǔ. A new term 'Chinese folk wisecracks' is proposed and principles and techniques of translating them are discussed.
