摘要
哈代本人将自己的大部分小说划分为“性格与环境小说”。遗憾的是 ,哈代有生之年未能对“性格”究竟指的是什么 ,“环境”究竟指的是什么 ,以及二者之间关系如何等一系列可能涉及作家创作意图和作品分类因由的问题作任何解释和界定。本文旨在以新马克思主义和传统马克思主义为视角 ,力图对哈代的“性格”与“环境”说做出界定 ,并深入阐述二者之间的关系。
Hardy himself classified most of his novels into a group named Novels of Character and Environment. Unfortunately, Hardy in his whole life never defined the two concepts and the relationship between them. The definition and interpretation of these terms in a sense is the most relevant issue concerning the purpose of composing them and naming them so. This essay aims at defining Character and Environment and explaining their relationship from the perspectives of both New and Classical Marxism.
