摘要
中国古籍是中国传统思想和文化的结晶.本文以英译<菜根谭>为例,探讨了中国古籍翻译中表达方面的某些问题.文章认为,译者的任务是在直译的基础上,灵活运用各种变通和补偿手段,以求在传达原文的字面意义和文化内涵的同时,努力再现原作的风格和语言形式.
Chinese ancient books are the crystallization of traditional Chinese thought and culture.Using illustrative examples from the English translation of Cai Gen Tan or My Crude Philosophy of Life ,this paper discusses some aspects of expression in translating such works of ancient China.The paper seeks to show that it is the translator's job to base his approach on literal translation supplemented with various methods of accommodation and compensation,with a view to not only conveying the literal meaning and cultural connotation,but also reproducing as much as possible the style and rhetorical features,of the original work.
