In his novel, The Red Badge of Courage , Stephen Crane uses the techniques of Impressionism to express his naturalistic attitude. He successfully conveys to the reader his pessimistic views of Naturalism through the employment of words of colors, the panoramic rendition and the heros changing impressions of the American Civil War and the world in which he lives.
