In this paper, penalty finite element method is used to analysis the three-dimensional turbulent flowfield in a centrifugal fan impeller. Computational results reveal the jet-wake flow character at the impeller exit, and are in agreement with previous experimental results.This study shows that penalty finite element method can predict the complex flowfield in centrifugal impellers with enough accuracy for engineering application and can greatlvrsbuce the computatioal work of finite element method.
