摘要
利用热奈特的叙述层次说分析《呼啸山庄》的叙述层次,可以看出勃朗特的“内故事叙述层”不只是简单地要引出管家耐莉叙述的“元故事”。除了通过洛克伍德的眼睛展示呼啸山庄的生活画面和留下种种伏笔之外,叙事者洛克伍德的性格和人生态度都通过他的“日记”跃然纸上。他始终是呼啸山庄的一位好奇而超然的“观望者”,他的所谓理性和逃避个人情感的冲动平衡了“元故事”中激越的情感冲突。
The narrative levels of Wuthering Heights are analyzed in the light of Gerard Genette' s definitions. Emily Bronte so ingeniously designs her "intradiegetic level" that it becomes not merely an introductory prelude to Nelly's "metadiegesis. " This part not only leaves a preliminary but striking impression of life and people in the novel through Lockwood' s eyes and foreshadows Nelly' s story, but also reveals Lockwood' s characters and his attitudes toward Wuthering Heights. He remains a curious and detached "onlooker" throughout his stay there and his "reason" and his impulse to avoid all personal experience counerweighs the pull toward passion and feeling in Nelly's "metadiegesis. "
