This review gives an introduction to the principle, character and development of the analog and digital lock-in amplifier. Especially, the digital lock-in amplifier has the following advantages: the model hardware, flexible arithmetic, updatable software, extensive application and low cost. So the development of the lock-in amplifier would have a bright future and powerful strength.
