Objective This aim of study was to determine the relationship between pulse pressure and all cause mortality, incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cerebrovascular (CVA). Methods The cohort consisted of the beneficiaries of Korea medical insurance corporation {KMIC) aged 40 and older who underwent health examination and completed the questionnaire inquiring of health habits and past medical history in 1992 or 1993. 698 796 participants were followed up for 7 years, from 1 January, 1994 until 31 December, 2000. Resalts A linear relationship between pulse pressure(PP) and all cause mortality, incidence of cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease were found in both gender and all age groups independent of BP level. Increases in PP was associated with increases in all cause mortality, incidence rate of CVD, and CVA(P〈0.01 ), however, the extent of deteriorated effect was attenuated with the increments of ages. Conclusion PP was linearly related with all cause mortality, CVD and CVA.
