在心智哲学中,塞尔提出有关意识的一个观点———生物自然主义。他主张我们应该把意识看作生物学史的一部分,意识是由大脑内神经生物过程引起的,并在大脑的结构中实现。大脑内低层次神经元过程引起意识,意识只是由低层次神经要素组成的系统的高层次特征。为了清除科学研究意识中的各种哲学障碍,他力图修正他认为错误和混乱的一系列观点,并为我们提出一个科学地研究意识的可能进路———统一场理论。
In philosophy of mind,Searle has a view of consciousness:biological naturalism.He argues that we should think of consciousness as part of our ordinary biological history,consciousness is caused by neurobiological processes in the brain and it is realized in he structure of the brain,lower level neuronal processes in the brain cause it,and consciousness is simply a higher level feature of the system that is made up of the lower level neuronal elements.In order to clear the ground of various philosophical obstacles to the scientific study of consciousness,he tries to correct a series of views that he thinks are false or confused and then,gives us a probable approach to study consciousness scientifically-the unified field theory.
