摘要
袁世凯在洋人觊觎、国内诸商争办的情势下,精心筹划建筑了中国铁路建设史上具有重要地位和意义的京张铁路。其贡献有二,一是多方筹集资金,如提拨关内外铁路余利、奏报京张铁路沿线矿产归京张路局等;二是用心挑选人才,詹天佑是最为突出的代表,此外,袁世凯还陆续调来大批技术人员,并委派得力干将为铁路会办。袁世凯的举动不仅唤起了大众的民族自信心和自豪感,同时开创了中国独立发展铁路事业的先河,并培养出詹天佑等杰出铁路技术人才。
Yuan Shikai elaborately designed and constructed Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, a significant event in the railway construction history of China, when foreigners were covetous of and merchants were eager for the right of construction. Yuan's contribution can be summarized in two aspects : he raised funds from various channels such as extracting bonus from railways and taking over the mineral resources along Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway line to Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway Administration; and he carefully selected talents such as Zhan Tianyou, the most outstanding engineer. In addition, Yuan kept sending a great many technicians and appointed qualified railway management personnel. Yuan's success aroused the national self-confidence and sense of pride, blazed a new trail of China's independent railway construction and cultivated brilliant technicians.
