Objective To outline the three-dimensional anatomic pictures of the cat auditory cortex subdivisions. Methods Anterograde tracer-biotinylated dextran amines(BDA) was injected into the medial geniculate body of the cat, then the original data-base of the auditory subdivisions was built by photographing TMB-processed coronal slices. In the end, three-dimensional software of Amira was introduced to reconstruct auditory subdivisions. Result The data-base of the hemisphere and auditory cortex subdivisions of the cat was obtained. The result of the anterograde tracing showed that the capital auditory regions of the cat cerebral cortex comprise five different areas: AI, AAF, P, VP and AⅡ . Finally, we reconstructed the three-dimensional model of the hemisphere and auditory cortex region. Conclusion Combining histological technique and computer technology, we are allowed to conduct researches on precise and three-dimensional subdivision of the cat auditory cortex.
