Exceptionally gifted with profound knowledge, the writers of the "Crescent Moon Group" endeavored to cultivate an elegant aesthetic taste, leading to a close affinity between their literary creations and the western modernist arts ; there is a close congenial tie in both spirit and literary creation between the writers of this group (in particular Xu Zhimo, the soul of the group, and such writers as Lin Huiyin and Ling Shuhua who formed the backbone of the group) and Virginia Woolf, the spiritual leader of the "Bloomsbury Group". It is Xu Zhimo who firstly introduced Woolf's literary thoughts and achievements to China; Lin Huiyin, who shared a lot with Woolf in both nurture and disposition, borrowed from Woolf the skills of stream of consciousness, which is embodied in her works bearing the modernist literary characteristics. This indissoluble bond between the writers of the "Crescent Moon Group" and Virginia Woolf mirrors an aspect of the development of the modernity in the twentieth-century Chinese literature.
