摘要 Huangtupo lies at Kangji Village of Wenji Town in Zhongxiang City of Hubei Province,on the western bank of the middle Hanshui River, and is formed of several low hills. In late 1988 through 1996,the Jingzhou Museum, jointly with the Zhongxiang Museum, carried out seven times of excavation in the cemetery. They excavated 48 tombs(M3-M51)of the Eastern Zhou and Qin periods, which yielded 332 pottery, bronze, tin, jade and other precious stone, bone and horn objects. The tombs all bear distinct Chu culture elements and belong to members of the middle and petty aristocracy and common people among the Chu people or survivals.Of the 48 tombs,(1)five yielded ritual bronzes. All of the pits have steep walls but no tomb-passages.Their funeral ritual bronzes fall into the ding tripod and zhan three-legged food container and the ding and fu rectangular container(replaced by an inscribed basin in a case)sets. These graves belong to the later mid or the earlier late Spring-and-Autumn period.(2)24 tombs contain mainly pottery ritual vessels in imitation of bronzes. They are deep, wide pits with straightly inclined walls, and are furnished with a ramping passage in seven cases. The grave goods are combined in the ding-fu(for two tombs)and ding-dui(round vessel)(for five tombs)and ding-dui(for the rest)sets.Among them 19 burials can be inferred to belong to the early, mid or late Warring State period or the Qin Dynasty.(3)Nine tombs are burials in narrow, shallow pits, with pottery of daily use as the main funeral objects.Of them five go back to the time from the turn between the early and mid stages to the late stage of the Warring State period.(4)One tomb contains jade pendants and shells;the pit is deep and the walls are steep.(5)Nine tombs are small-mouthed shallow pits without grave goods. These along with those undated in the above groups can be assigned to the Eastern Zhou period in general terms.
