The polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans(PCDD/Fs)emission profiles in emissions from 13 different types of hazard waste incinerators(HWI)and the dioxin levels in soil in the vicinity of selected HWIs were investigated and discussed. There were no obvious relationships observed between emission concentrations had with the HWI capacities.Pattern analysis revealed that Tetra to Hexa PCDD/Fs and Hept to Octa PCDD/Fs have different emission characteristics and Tetra to Hexa PCDD/PCDF ratio would more suitable to describe the characteristic of PCDD/Fs emission(6.58±1.98,95% confidence intervals) than the total PCDD/PCDF ratio which used in most researches.Principle factor analysis(PCA)and hierarchical cluster methods were used to distinguish the PCDD/Fs emission pattern into three classes and results shows that the relevance between these patterns and HWI types, capacity and APCS types were not significant.2,3,4,7,8-PeCDFs contributes 35%—45% of I-TEQ and shows significantly high correlation with I-TEQ.The soil PCDD/Fs levels in HWIs ranged from 8 to 14 ng I-TEQ·kg^-1 and that in the vicinity of HWI ranged from 1 to 4ng I-TEQ·kg^-1.Both levels were less than the corresponding soil standards. For the soils near to HWIs,no notable risks for land uses were reported in current status. However, further researches would be expected to evaluate the environmental risks from HWIs emissions to the soils in the vicinity.
