Abstract This review covers the present status and perspectives in enzyme studies including basic research in molecular enzymology as well as the recent interest in functional enzymology especially proteomics ralated to human genome research.In addition,applied enzymology such as possible industrial applications of basic enzyme studies and the uses of results obtained from structural and mechanistic studies of enzymes in the design of enzyme targeted drugs have been discussed.
