(Catheter-related sepsis, CRS)
OBJECTIVE To study bacterial change and drug sensitivity of positive central venous catheters culture were studied respectively. METHODS This paper was investigated 75 clinic patients with positive caltures from central vein catheters of digestive system diseases at Feb. 1993~Dec. 1997. RESULTS The most common organisms were Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The bacteremic pathogens isolated in this study demonstrated a marked pattern of antibiotic resistance. Gram positive Cocci were sensitive to vancomycin with a sensitivity rate of 91.5%, Gram negtive Bacilli were sensitive to amikacin and ceftazidine with a sensitivity rate of 55.1%. CONCLUSION The effective treatment of catheter related sepsis is removal of the infected catheters.
