摘要
萨皮尔(E.Sapir)和沃尔夫(B.L.Whorf)的语言决定论一直是人们争论不休的问题,但笔者认为此理论过于夸大了语言的功能。从语言和思维的关系来看,笔者更倾向于认为思维模式决定着语言的使用。本文将从中英词汇、句法结构和段落组织三个方面的对比来验证思维模式的决定性作用。
The Linguistic Determinism, which was proposed by E. Sapir and B.L. Whorf has been the center of argument for a long time, but the author holds the point that it overstateds the role of language. Comparatively, the author is in favor of the view that our thinking patterns determine the use of language. This paper will analyze the determinative role of thought from the comparison of Chinese and English vocabulary, syntactic structure and paragraph organization.
