To study the emotional status of patients with cancer. Methods: Seventy-nine patients with gastroenteric cancer were measured with SAS and SDS. Results: Patients with cancer had preoperative anxiety and depression, and their anxiety and depression decreased after operation. But the patients with late period cancer still had major depression and anxiety after operation. Conclusion: Anxiety and depression were common in cancer patients, especially before operation.
