摘要
伦理道德是维系人际关系的重要准则之一。伊迪丝.华顿在《元旦》这部小说中以美国社会转型时期为背景,揭示了伦理道德情境的特殊性以及伦理道德规范的时空性,表达了华顿伦理道德相对性的观点。虽然华顿的伦理道德相对论观点对当时纽约上流社会传统的伦理道德观做出了批判,但华顿并未冲破传统伦理道德观念的桎梏。华顿在伦理道德的理想之路上做出了努力,但最终还是回归到传统伦理道德观念的范畴内,这就决定了她笔下的女主人公利奇只能成为传统伦理道德的牺牲品而不是掘墓人。
Ethics and Morality are one of the most important rules which are used to regulate human relations. Edith Wharton revealed the particularity of ethic and moral context and the time as well as spatial characteristics of ethics and morality, expressed her ethics and morality in her novel New Year＇s Day which is set in the transition period of American society. Although Wharton criticized the traditional ethics and morality of old New York upper society, she didnt smash the traditional ethics and morality shackles, wnarton made efforts on the road leading to ideal ethics and morality. But she finally returned to the traditional ethics and morality category, which made the heroine Lizzie become the victim of traditional ethics and morality instead of their grave -digger.
