Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of the injuries from sentinel hospitals in Jiangxi Province so as to provide scientific evidence for formulating the related policies and countermeasures. Methods The data were collected from 3 sentinel hospitals at different levels in Jiangxi Province. We analyzed the injury cases which were diagnosed for the first time in the sentinel hospitals from January 1st,2012 to December 31st,2012.Results A total of 7,477 cases were monitored in 2012,and the male to female sex ratio was 1.5∶ 1.Most injuries (38.2%) occurred in patients 45-64 years of age.The top three causes of the injuries were falling/dropping (58.8%),traffic accidents (16.1%) and blunt trauma (8.2%).The lower limb and upper limb were the main body parts injured, accounting for 59.3 % of the total cases. Most common places of injury occurrence for the males and the females were road/street (35.0%) and home (42.5%),respectively.Injuries occurred mainly in the leisure, driving and ride, and paid work-based time. Most injury cases were unintentional (95.5%) and slight injuries (76.1%).Conclusions Injury surveillance in Jiangxi Province shows that male injury cases are more than female ones. The major causes of the injuries are falling, traffic accidents and blunt trauma and most injuries are unintentional and minor.Targeted intervention measures should be taken among the key populations based on the distribution characteristics of injury cases so as to reduce the injuries in Jiangxi Province.
