On the Spatial Granularity of Geographical Information

摘要 粒度是刻画地理信息抽象程度的主要要素,在比例尺相同的情况下,描述地理信息细节层次可以不同,这受地理信息粒度的控制。地理信息粒度包括语义粒度、时间粒度、空间粒度,其中空间粒度起决定性的作用。该文论述了地理细节层次刻画与尺度的各要素间的关系,对描述地理细节层次的空间粒度进行了分类,把空间粒度分为空间大小粒度、空间特征粒度、空间拓扑关系粒度、空间距离关系粒度和空间方向关系粒度,并详细探讨了其内涵及其对地理信息抽象程度刻画的影响,同时阐述了空间粒度对于语义粒度的影响作用。 Granularity is the main element which characterizes the degree of abstraction of geographical information. In the case of the same scale, the level of detail of geographic information can also be different, which is controlled by the granularity of geographic information. The granularity of geographic information is consisting of semantic granularity, time granularity, spatial granularity,and of all them spatial granularity plays a decisive role. This paper discusses the relationship between the description of geographic level of detail and the various elements of scale, classifies space granularity into five kinds such as granularity as spatial size, granularity of spatial character, granularity of spatial topological relations, granularity of spatial distance relationship and granularity of spatial orientation relations, and discusses their connotation in detail and their impact on depiction of the degree of abstraction of geographic information, and at the same time elaborates the influence of spatial granularity to semantic granularity.
