Objective To observe the value of low-field MRI in grading diagnosis of articular cartilage injury of knee. Methods Low-field MRI data of 60 patients (60 knees, totally 360 cartilage surfaces) with cartilage injury confirmed by arthroscopic were retrospectively reviewed. Taking the results of arthroscopy as standards, the value of low-field MRI in grading diagnosis of articular cartilage injury was evaluated. Results The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rate of low- field MRI for articular cartilage injury of knee was 78.50% (157/200), 91.25% (146/160) and 84.17% (303/360), respectively. Low-field MRI results had good consistency with those of arthroscopy for 2-4 grade, but not for grade 1 artic- ular cartilage injury. Conclusion Low-field MRI is valuable in grading diagnosis of grade 2--4 articular cartilage injury of knee, but not good for grade 1 injury.
