摘要
汉语谚语与英语文化有较大差异,处理不当,则会影响跨文化交际的顺利进行。本文分析了汉语谚语英译时需注意的社会、历史、宗教等方面文化要素,针对不同情况提出直译、意译及套译的翻译策略,并对如何做好汉语谚语的英译提出建议:保持口语化和民族特色,忌望文生义。译者必须对英汉两种文化有充分的了解,才能做好汉语谚语的英译。
The difference between Chinese proverbs and English culture will have big influence on cross cultural communication if dealt with improperly. This article tried to analyze such elements as social culture, historical culture and religious culture which should be paid attention to when translating. Depending on different circumstances, this article put forward three translation strategies like literal translation, free translation, and corresponding translation. Besides, it also came up with some suggestion to the translation of Chinese proverbs： to describe colloquially, to maintain Chinese specific features, and not to misinterpret words＇ meaning. Therefore, translators can be qualified for the job only after the master of both English culture and Chinese culture.
