OBJECTIVE Differences in knowledge background and different identities in medical activities make it difficult for doctors and patients to understand each other, and it is easy to cause divergence and lead to contradictions between doctors and patients. In addition to effectively improving medical humanities literacy and coordinating hospital management, medical popularization activities are the most potential ways to alleviate the contradiction between doctors and patients. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of medical popularization activities on the relationship between doctors and patients at this stage, and to initially establish a science program with good continuity, good feasibility, and significant effects.METHODS From January 1,2016 to January 1,2017,the young specialists of Shanghai First People’s Hospital were organized as the core scientific team, and the popular science platform was used to conduct medical knowledge and common sense of common people in Songjiang District of Shanghai.Using pre-and post-test research methods, the audiences’ perceptions of the relationship and contradiction between doctors and patients were collected before and after the popular science lectures. Then statistical comparisons were performed.RESULTS After the popular science lecture, the proportion of doctors’ responsibility in the doctor-patient relationship was considered by respondents as(32.3±5.17)%,which was lower than that before the popular science(39.3±6.15)%.The difference was statistically significant,t=10.957,P<0.001.The respondents rated(69.9±14.27)points for doctor-patient relationship, communication and hospital system, which was higher than(59.6±13.5)points before the popular science,t=-7.668,P<0.001.After the doctor’s popular science education, the respondents had higher evaluations of doctor-patient relationship(χ^2=22.826,P<0.001),doctor’s usual communication(χ^2=10.084,P=0.002)and hospital system(χ^2=18.070,P<0.001).The differences were statistically significant.CONCLUSIONS The development of doctors’ popular science activities can promote mutual trust and enhance understanding, and significantly improve the concept of the masses of doctors and help improve the relationship between doctors and patients.
