OBJECTIVE To investigate effect of human cytomegalovirus antibodies (HCMV-Ab) on serum endothelin, P-selectin and complications in hypertensive patients. METHODS A retrospective analysis on clinical data of 68 patients with essential hypertension in our hospital from Apr. 2012 to May 2013 was conducted, and 66 healthy people in the medical examination center of our hospital during the same period were chosen as a control group for comparative observation. Data were analyzed with SPSS 16.0. RESULTS The positive rate of IgM and IgA was 55.88%, 89.71% in the hypertensive group, and 19.70%, 74.24% in the control group, the rate of patients whose IgM and IgA were both positive was 54.41% in the hypertensive group, and 16.67% in the control group. The HCMV-Ab IgM, IgA-positive rate and the double-positive rate was significantly higher in the hypertensive patients than in the control group (P〈0.05). The plasma endothelin, P-selectin levels were (95.47±5.12) pg/ ml, 42.54±3.29 in IgM positive patients, and (70.83±4.61)pg/ml, 27.47±5, 61 in IgM-negative patients in the hypertensive group, all significantly higher than ((46.93± 6.00), 19.59 ± 4.31 in the control group (P〈0.05). CONCLUSION Virus infection can significantly increase plasma endothelin and P-seleetin levelsin patients with hypertension, thus increasing the incidence of complications.
