Periodically emerging epidemics of new and old zoonoses threaten human health and magnify the economic burden to the society. Many zoonotic diseases are associated with the behaviors of animals and human beings and environmental factors. With the growing and rapid transportation of people, animals and food in this one global world we mankind are facing globally complicated zoonotic disease problems on a scale never seen before. However, the global effort for zoonosis surveillance and investigation is poorly allocated, with less sci entific resources focused on zoonotic hotspots in developing countries. "One Health" is the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines-working locally, nationally, and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment. In China, the absence of a comprehensive system in coordinating diseases in human and animals and environmental health has restricted the efficient prevention and control of zoonoses. Thus, the "One Health" approach needs to be established among health professionals from multiple disciplines towards the intervention of zoonotic diseases.
