Free radicals in the body are closely related to photodermatoses such as skin photoaging, aging and some tumors.Excessive free radicals can attack DNA, lipids and proteins, cause lipid peroxidation and oxidative protein damage, lead to structural damages and functional impairment in cells, and finally induce the occurrence of related diseases. Some microelements such as zinc, copper, selenium and manganese are involved in the composition of phase Ⅱ detoxifying enzymes (including superoxide dismutase [SOD], glutathione, etc), can enhance the activity of SOD and ability to remove free radicals. In addition, these microelements exert antioxidative effects through some signal pathways, including the Nrf2 signal pathway and CDK4-mediated mitochondrial signal pathway, and play a role in maintaining dynamic balance in the body and in preventing diseases.
