In the middle of last century, the reflections on industrialization and modernization brought "little tradition" into architects' attention. This paper takes the local practice of Gion A. Caminada in Vrin (Switzerland) as an example to unveil the architect's understanding and wisdom of local life in his design and construction on periphery. It explores the roles of vernacular architecture as reconstructed local identity, regenerated traditional culture, and re-organized economics and politics, shedding light on a new pattern of human settlements in countryside.
