Regulatory T cells(Treg) usually are defined as several subsets of CD4+cells, which share somecommon features including expression of Foxp3(except for Tr1 cells) and secretion of inhibitory cytokine IL-10 and/or TGF-β. Tregs play crucial role in negatively controlling immune activity by their actions on suppression ofeffector T cells and inhibiting activation of mast cells, dentritic cells and B cells. In addition to transplant rejection, infection and cancer, it is noticeable that Tregs likely contribute to some autoimmune disorders such as type Idiabetes mellitus, systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis et al. Modulation of functions of Tregs mayprovide a novel strategy to prevent and treat autoimmune diseases.
