摘要
克林与法夫瑞分别是《还乡》与《卡斯特桥市长》中的时代先锋,是社会转型期极具代表性的男性人物。与女性人物不同,他们的思想、行为及个人体验能更全面、更深刻地反映当时社会的新旧风貌。孤独是二人共有的体验,以社会转型为切入点,,从金钱、阶级身份两个角度探究二人的孤独历程,有助于深入了解转型期社会的显著特点及对民众产生的各种影响。
Clym and Farfrae,two main characters in The Return of the Native and The Life and Death of the Mayor of Casterbridge,were the pioneers among others and the male representatives in the period of social transition.Unlike the female characters,their ideas,actions and experiences could reflect both the old and new trends of society from a wider and deeper perspective.Through close reading,it reveals that both of them went through“loneliness”,which will be explored from two aspects-money and class identity,with social transition as the starting point,and hopefully this will shed light on the characteristics of that special period and its influences on the masses.
