冷战背景下印度教民族主义者将中国共产党及其执政下的中国妖魔化,污蔑其对印度构成安全威胁。中印边界战争加剧了印度民族主义势力的安全担忧。在狭隘民族主义思维作用下,印度英文媒体不断散布"中国威胁论",对中国及中印关系进行大量负面报道,在印度社会掀起持续的反华逆流。囿于对华安全上的认知偏见和国内政治中的民粹主义风气,印度人民党以"中国威胁"为由对华持强硬立场,对印度的对华安全政策产生了重要影响,一定程度上致使中印关系遭受挫折。
During the Cold War, Hindu nationalists demonized the Communist Party of China and its rule in China and slandered it as a "security threat" to India. The Sino-Indian border war exacerbated security concerns of Hindu nationalist. English media associated with nationalism has played a role in instigating feelings against China. BJP’s tough stance toward China has exerted an impact on India’s policy and to some extent has caused a setback in Sino-Indian relations.
