The waste oily drilling cuttings were harmlessly treated by using the residual activated sludge. The microbial concentration,alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen content, available phosphorus content, total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)content and changes in composition of the mixture were investigated after adding the residual activated sludge. The biotoxicity of the mixture after degradation was evaluated. The experimental results showed that:After adding the residual activated sludge, the total bacterial concentration was kept at a high level; The alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen content was gradually reduced and then remains stable, and the available phosphorus content fluctuated within a certain range with the overall increasing slightly; When the amount of residual activated sludge was 20%-60%(w),the removal rate of TPH was above 74%,which was much higher than that of the control group(28.8%)without adding residual activated sludge; The addition of residual activated sludge could effectively promote the degradation of TPH and the conversion of nitrogen in oily drilling cuttings by microorganism, adding 50%(w)or more of the residual activated sludge could make the treated oily drilling cuttings less biotoxic and was more conducive to the harmless treatment of oily drilling cuttings.
