The object being transferred from its original place to the museum causes the generation of new meanings, which leads to the meaning transformation of the object. The meaning transformation of the object breaks the ideal of authentic representation. When a temple object, which has often been endowed with a sense of sacredness,is placed in a museum as a religious exhibit, meaning transformation of this object occurs. For example,in the exhibition A Deep River Runs Far,when the objects which were originally from temples were displayed in a museum setting or online, their meaning of sacredness was turned to be more of knowledge, aesthetics, and entertainment. For religious objects being presented in museums, curatorial approaches such as preservation and exhibiting in situ, holding religious ceremonies, reproducing the scenes of their original context,or creating an atmosphere of sacredness may help build the connection between these objects and their meaning of sacredness and strengthen the relevance to their original cultural contexts.
