摘要
布龙菲尔德的意义观一直为学界所诟病,"重形式、轻意义"成为布氏意义观不受重视的症结所在。本文重新回归《语言论》,追溯布氏意义观的产生缘由,讨论其主要特征,以重新审视布氏意义观,旨在发现其内在本质,并为形式与语义相关问题的深入研究打下基础。研究发现主要有三:1)布氏意义观的产生主要缘于客观实践需求、前人理论奠基、经验主义哲学和行为主义心理学濡染,是多重因素联合驱动的产物;2)布氏意义观包含三大典型特征:语境依赖性、形式制约性、所指多样性与模糊性;3)布氏主张语言研究从形式出发,兼顾意义,形式与意义具有不可分割性。
Bloomfield’s view of meaning which is generally understood as"emphasis on form and neglect of meaning"has always been criticized and ignored.Based on On Language,this paper traces back to the origin of Bloomfield’s view of meaning,discusses its main characteristics and re-examines Bloomfield’s view of meaning so as to find out its inner essence and lay a foundation for the further study of the problems related to form and semantic meaning.Accordingly there are mainly three findings.Firstly,Bloomfield’s view of meaning emerges from the combination of multiple factors:the needs of objective practice,the theoretical basis of his predecessors and the influence of experiential philosophy and behavioral psychology.Secondly,there are three typical characteristics in his view of meaning,namely context dependence,form restriction,meaning diversity and fuzziness.Thirdly,Bloomfield advocates that language research should start from form and take meaning into consideration since form and meaning can not be separated.
