摘要
隐喻具有形象性、简洁性、含义不确定性等特征,一直是文学作品中不可或缺的元素。现代隐喻历经40年发展,形成较完整的理论体系,然而对于隐喻翻译的研究却不够深入。本研究以认知文体学为理论指导,借鉴西方隐喻分类标准和翻译策略,分析汉语隐喻独特特征,尝试将其分成3类:概念隐喻、意象隐喻、意象图示隐喻,以《尘埃落定》英译本为个案研究对象,从认知和文体两个维度分析隐喻成因和效果,进而对3种隐喻提出不同翻译路径。
Metaphor, which embraces the characteristics of vividness, simplicity, and uncertainty in meaning, is an indispensable element in literary creativity. After 40 years of development, modern theories on metaphor have become increasingly systematic. However, research on metaphor translation has not been advanced in great depth so far. By employing the Western classification standard and translation strategy of metaphors and analysing the special characteristics of Chinese metaphors, this paper takes cognitive stylistics as the theoretical framework in which metaphors are classified. It offers an analytical model of three categories: conceptual metaphor, image metaphor, and image schema metaphor. This paper investigates Alai’s masterpiece Chen’ai Luoding as a case study. It examines the formation and effects of the metaphors used in this work. As an outcome of the research, the paper provides a discussion of independent translation paths for the three types of metaphors.
