This paper first analyzes the theoretical mechanism of the impact of upstream participation in the global value chain and enterprise cost plus rate on labor income share. Then it empirically tests the impact of upstream participation in the global value chain and enterprise cost plus rate on labor income share by using the matching data of Chinese industrial enterprises and customs from 2000 to 2013, and investigates the intermediary effect of enterprise cost plus rate. It is found that both the upstream participation of the global value chain and the cost addition rate of enterprises have a significant negative impact on the share of labor income. In addition, the effects of upstream participation in the global value chain and enterprise cost addition rate on labor income share are heterogeneous. Specifically, the upstream participation in the global value chain significantly reduces the labor income share of private enterprises, general trade enterprises and enterprises in the eastern region. And the cost plus rate has no significant effect on the income of processing trade enterprises and enterprises in the central and western regions. Further intermediary mechanism test shows that the enterprise cost plus rate can expand the negative effect of enterprise GVC upstream participation on labor income distribution.
