摘要
作为大学的首席执行官与最高学术领袖,校长无疑在英国一流大学的建设过程中发挥了重要作用。通过对"罗素大学集团"校长群体的实证研究发现:该集团2019年时任校长的普遍"肖像"是:男性,60岁左右,英国国籍,在国内一流大学获得博士学位,任前职业为大学校长或副校长,晋升路径为教师→院系领导→副校长→校长,是某一领域的杰出学者,具有院士头衔或荣誉勋章。"罗素大学集团"校长群体的动态特征是:身份来源日趋多元,国际化程度日益加深,具有明显的"筹款导向"。结合我国现实状况,一流大学应在校长选拔过程中体现多元化与包容性,注重大学校长的国际化,并适当增加经管型人才的数量。
As the university’s chief executive officer and top academic leader,the Vice-chancellor has undoubtedly played an important role in the construction of the UK’s top universities. Through an empirical analysis of the 24 principals of"the Russell Group",this paper finds that the"portrait"of the Vice-chancellors of the firstclass universities in the UK is:Male,about 60 years old,British,obtained a doctorate degree from UK’s first-class universities,whose former occupation is Vice-Chancellor or Deputy-Vice-Chancellor,whose promotion path is from Teacher to Faculty Leader to Deputy-Vice-Chancellor,and to Vice-Chancellor,an outstanding scholar with a title of academician or medal of honor. The dynamic characteristics of the Vice-Chancellors are:diversification,internationalization and"fund orientation". According to the situation in China,diversity and inclusiveness should be reflected in the selection of the first-class university presidents,with focus on the internationalization of university presidents,and appropriate increase in the number of economic management talents.
