摘要
石黑一雄是当代英国享有盛誉的小说家之一,其代表作《别让我走》描述了“克隆人”在现实社会中所遭遇的悲惨命运。小说中蕴含着大量的空间描写,无处不在的“空间性”作为一种表征方式的同时也与主人公的身份意识形成了某种契合,转化为“身份想象”融入到小说主题中;运用空间批评理论,聚焦小说主人公凯西生活的三个地理空间:黑尔舍姆、村舍和康复中心,从权力空间、心理空间和社会空间三个层面探讨空间与人物身份意识构建之间的内在关联性。
Kazuo Ishiguro is one of the most prestigious contemporary British novelists.His masterpiece Never Let Me Go describes the tragic fate of"clone man"in the real society.The novel contains a large number of spatial descriptions.As a way of representation,the ubiquitous"spatiality"also forms a certain agreement with the identity consciousness of the protagonist,which is transformed into"identity imagination"and integrated into the theme of the novel.This paper,by applying spatial criticism theory,focuses on the three geographical places where Cathy lived,i.e.Hailsham,cottage and rehabilitation center,and explores the inherent relevance between space and the construction of the character's identity on the three levels of power space,psychological space and social space.
