摘要
文化负载词能够反映不同国家和民族的文化特色,中西方文化的差异为文化负载词的英译提供了研究空间。《白蛇》是严歌苓的重要作品之一,其英译研究尚属空白。以《白蛇》及其英译本作为对象,运用译者行为批评理论中的“求真—务实”连续统评价模式,对译本中生态、物质、社会、宗教和语言这五类文化负载词的翻译策略、方法和技巧及相应的译者行为进行研究。研究发现,译者在翻译不同类型的文化负载词时选择了不同的翻译策略及方法技巧,体现了不同的译者行为。译文总体上“归化”和“异化”结合,兼顾“求真”与“务实”,体现了译者语言人和社会人双重属性。
Culture-loaded words can reflect the cultural characteristics of different countries and nations.The differences between Chinese and Western cultures provide space for the study of English translation of culture-loaded words.White Snake is one of Yan Geling's important works,but the study of its English translation is still a gap.Taking White Snake and its English version as the research object,this paper uses the“Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining”evaluative model of continuum in the theory of translator behavior criticism to study the translation strategies,methods and techniques of the five types of culture-loaded words in the translation,namely,ecological,material,social,religious and linguistic culture-loaded words,and the corresponding translator behavior.It is found that the translator chooses different translation strategies,methods and techniques when translating different types of culture-loaded words,which reflects different translator behaviors.Overall,the translation combines“domestication”and“foreignization”and achieves both“truth-seeking”and“utility-attaining”,which reflects the translator's dual attributes of“linguistic being”and“social being”.
