摘要
通过经典文学作品来讲授领导力课程是詹姆斯·马奇的一大特色。这样一个文学化马奇是马奇留给现代管理学的一笔厚重遗产。对于这样一笔遗产,学术界却似乎还没有给予足够的重视。从诠释学的视角出发,对文学化马奇的管理学内涵及意义进行分析。结果显示,文学化马奇虽然不符合主流管理学及实证主义范式标准,但是却与诠释学这样一种重要的哲学流派相符合,是诠释学一脉在管理学中的延伸。海德格尔、伽达默尔的哲学从根本上保证了文学化马奇的学术合理性。然而,文学化马奇所代表的诠释主义范式还有助于解决与实践相关的根本目的、道德判断和度的把握等问题,有助于解决主流管理学长期存在的与实践脱节问题。
Teaching leadership courses through classic literary works is a major feature of James March.This is reflected in his introduction of literary classics such as War and Peace and Don Quixote into the classrooms of business schools,becoming an important basis for teaching leadership courses.This literary March is a significant legacy left by March to modern management studies.For such a legacy,the academic community seems to have not given enough attention.Apart from March himself,few scholars dare to combine literary classics with management research.In order to promote Marchs innovation,this paper analyzes the management connotation and significance of literary March from the perspective of hermeneutics.The results show that although literary March does not meet the standards of mainstream management and positivist paradigms,it is in line with the ideological spirit advocated by hermeneutics,an important philosophical school,and can be said to be an extension of the hermeneutic lineage in modern management.On the one hand,this extension fundamentally ensures the academic depth of literary March,and on the other hand,it also opens up a new academic paradigm in management:an interpretive paradigm,providing a completely different academic approach from mainstream management and its positivist paradigms.This is reflected in the following aspects.The mainstream management research paradigm emphasizes the definition of concepts and the construction of theories,while the interpretive paradigm focuses on interpreting classic literary works to gain insights into life,the world,and what leadership is and it does not refer to the theoretical knowledge of mainstream management that mainly focuses on concepts and models,but rather a practical wisdom.Mainstream management emphasizes the distance between researchers and subjects,as well as logical reasoning based on concepts,while the interpretive paradigm places greater emphasis on immersing oneself in textual situations,interpreting and grasping the spiritual world behind the text as a whole through empathy,understanding,intuition,and other means.Mainstream management emphasizes seeking propositional knowledge that can be clearly expressed,while the interpretive paradigm values life wisdom that is difficult to accurately and fully express in language and writing.The mainstream management studies pursue a scientific positioning,while the interpretive paradigm reflects a clear humanistic and artistic nature.Moreover,compared to mainstream management paradigms,the interpretive paradigm represented by literary March can better address some major issues related to practice.Specifically,it can not only enhance peoples spiritual realm and moral judgment abilities but also help them understand the complexity of the real world,thereby helping to resolve such issues closely related to practice as fundamental goals,moral judgment,a fine line,and“unity of knowledge and action”,and to solve the long⁃standing problem of disconnection between academic research and practice in mainstream management.
