Gloria Naylor(1950~2016)is one of the leading contemporary black women writers in the United States. Her first work,The Women of Brewster Place(1982),depicted the survival of women living in the black American community.Based on Carol Gilligan’s gender ethics, this paper focuses on the moral judgments and choices of female characters at the three stages of moral development, and discusses the self-growth and mutual care of black women under the dual oppression of gender and race.It examines the autonomy of women’s morality from the perspective of gender differences, and advocates women’s care for others and self-development.
