糖醇,虽然不是糖,但具有某些糖的属性。因此国外把糖醇作为食糖替代品,广泛应用于食品工业。用糖醇制取的甜食品称无糖食品(sugar free;sugarless),糖醇因不被口腔中微生物利用,又不使口腔PH降低,反而会上升,所以不腐蚀牙齿,是防踽齿的好材料,糖醇对人体血糖值上升无影响且能为糖尿病人提供一定热量,所以可做为糖尿病人提供热量的营养性甜味剂。目前,国际食品和卫生组织已批准糖醇为无须限量食用的安全性食品。
Sugar alcohol is not sugar, but it has many sugar' s properties. As one kind of replacer of sugar, sugar alcohol is used widely in food industry in abroad. Sugar alcohol can not be used by microorganism in the mouth,and can raise the value of PH in the mouth and the value of blood sugar,offers quantity of heat for diabetes persons. Therefore,Sugar alcohol usually regards as a perfect food ingredient for food of and - decayed tooth and a functional sweetener. At present, sugar alcohol has been approved by the related international organizations. It can be used as a kind of safe food ingredient with no restriction on quantity.
