副文本对比研究——以莫言《檀香刑》原作与葛浩文英译本为例

摘要 中国文学作品是传播民族文化的重要载体,中国文化今天能够登上世界舞台,文学作品功不可没。作为中国首位诺贝尔文学奖获得者,莫言共著有《红高粱家族》、《酒国》、《生死疲劳》等长篇小说11部。相较于这些知名的作品,《檀香刑》是莫言小说中一部较为特别的作品,其叙事方式和语言风格具有鲜明的艺术特色,故事发生背景时间具有特殊的历史意义。通过对比分析《檀香刑》原作英译本的副文本材料,文章探讨了世界文学背景下中美两国出版社针对中国文学作品采用的副文本策略的异同,着重分析了副文本在译作中的角色以及对译作接受度的影响。莫言作品在美国的成功译介揭示了在促进翻译文学在目标文化市场的有效传播方面,副文本策略具有重要作用。 Chinese literary works serve as important carriers for the dissemination of national culture, and the contribution of literary works to the global recognition of Chinese culture cannot be understated. Mo Yan, as the first Chinese Nobel laureate in literature, has authored 11 major novels, including well-known works such as “Red Sorghum Clan”, “Republic of Wine” and “Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out”. Among these notable works, “Sandalwood Death” stands out as a particularly unique piece within Mo Yan’s literary repertoire. Its narrative style and linguistic characteristics exhibit distinc-tive artistic features, and the historical backdrop against which the story unfolds holds significant historical meaning. Through a comparative analysis of the paratextual materials of “Sandalwood Death” in its original and English translated versions, this paper explores the similarities and dif-ferences in the paratextual strategies employed by publishing houses in China and the United States for Chinese literary works within the global literary context. It places particular emphasis on the role of paratexts in translation and their impact on the reception of translated works. The suc-cessful introduction of Mo Yan’s works in the United States highlights the significant role that par-atextual strategies play in promoting the effective dissemination of translated literature in the tar-get culture’s market.
