This paper presents the independent source tied photovoltaic (PV) based three-phase three-level diode-clamped-multilevel inverter (DCD-MLI) utilizing field programmable gate array (FPGA) controller. The maximum power point (MPP) is tracked by using fuzzy logic algorithm. Employed for gating signal generation, the space vector modulation (SVM) strategy eradicates the complexity in determining the reference vector location, the ON-time calculations and switching state selection. A digital proportional integral (PI) control algorithm is implemented on a FPGA to keep the current injected into the independent source (grid) sinusoidal and to achieve high dynamic performance with low total harmonic distortion (THD) of output voltage and output current which are 0.97% and 1.26%. With the proposed configuration, the adjustments of modulation index and phase angle are synthesized onto a FPGA by means of hardware description language (VHDL). The efficacy of the scheme is verified through simulation study. To confirm the feasibility of the scheme, experimental studies are carried out on a scaled-down laboratory prototype. 展开更多

An analytical evaluation method for output waveform quality of space vector pulse width modulation(PWM)strategies applied in neutral⁃point⁃clamped three⁃level converter(3L⁃NPC)is proposed in this paper.Low frequency error caused by neutral point voltage ripple and high frequency error introduced by space vector synthesis were both taken into account, and the unified error model of output current ripple was established.By taking continuous and discontinuous modulation strategies as examples, the unified error model was validated through Fourier analysis of the experimental results. The proposed evaluation method will be helpful for the switching sequence optimization and the modulation strategy selection. 展开更多

This paper presents analytical frequency domain method for harmonic modeling and evaluation of Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) based static synchronous series converter (SSSC). SVPWM is the best among all the PWM techniques. It gives a degree of freedom of space vector placement in a switching cycle. Dynamic modeling technique is used for space vector modulation (SVM) based voltage source converter that is adapted as a static synchronous series converter (SSSC) for harmonic analysis using dynamic harmonic domain. Performance of the SSSC is evaluated in dynamic harmonic domain simulation studies in MATLAB environment. The switching function spectra are necessary for harmonic transfer matrix which is calculated using Fourier series. In this paper, we present the study, modelling and simulation of the duty cycle modulation (DCM) based on SVPWM control technique using Matlab/Simulink software. It is one of the most advanced control techniques of space vector modulation (SVM), which can be used for controlling static converters or for controlling electrical machines to achieve better dynamic performance. DCSVM is a control technique that generates control signals for the two-level voltage converter as well as for the intermediate times. The main advantage of this control technique is the reduction of the number of calculations, especially for the trigonometric functions and the generation of the reference voltage. In order to reduce the computational effort, we have designed a DCSVM controller that is able to faithfully reproduce the same vectors and output quantities as a classical SVM. In order to test the functionality and validity of the DCSVM control, we have developed different simulations that result in a total harmonic distortion (THD) of the voltage and current of 41.19% and 15.19% respectively with fundamental values of 61.51 V for the voltage and 2.80 A for the current;in contrast to the SVM which gives 47.27 V for the voltage and 2.01 A for the current with THDs of 77.16% for the voltage and 16.00% for the current. This results in an improvement in the distortion rate of around 25.5%. The results obtained are very satisfactory. The DCSVM is a real competitor to the SVM and its various variants. 展开更多

This paper proposes a design of control and estimation strategy for induction motor based on the variable structure approach. It describes a coupling of sliding mode direct torque control(DTC)with sliding mode flux and speed observer. This algorithm uses direct torque control basics and the sliding mode approach.A robust electromagnetic torque and flux controllers are designed to overcome the conventional SVM-DTC draw・backs and to ensure fast response and full reference tracking with desired dynamic behavior and low ripple level. The sliding mode controller is used to generate reference voltages in stationary frame and give them to the controlled motor after modulation by a space vector modulation(SVM)inverter. The second aim of this paper is to design a sliding mode speed/flux observer which can improve the control performances by using a sensorless algorithm to get an accurate estimation, and consequently, increase the reliability of the system and decrease the cost of using sensors. The effectiveness of the whole composed control algorithm is investigated in different robustness tests with simulation using Matlab/Simulink and verified by real time experimental implementation based on dS pace 1104 board. 展开更多

This paper is concerned with two popular and powerful methods in electrical drive applications:fieldoriented control(FOC)and space vector modulation(SVM).The proposed FOC-SVM method is incorporated with a predictive current control(PCC)-based technique. The suggested method estimates the desirable electrical torque to track mechanical torque at a fixed speed operation of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM).The estimated torque is used to calculate the reference current based on FOC.In order to improve the performance of the traditional SVM,a PCC method is established as a switching pattern modifier.Therefore,PCC-based SVM is employed to further minimize the torque ripples and transient response. The performance of the controller is evaluated in terms of torque and current ripple and transient response to step variations of the torque command. The proposed method has been verified with MATLAB-Simulink model.Simulation results confirm the ability of this technique in minimizing the torque and speed ripples and fixing switching frequency, simultaneously. However,it is sensitive to parameter changes. 展开更多

This paper investigates a Luenberger flux observer with speed adaptation for a direct field oriented control of an induction motor. An improved method of speed estimation that operates on the principle of speed adaptive flux and current observer has been proposed. An observer is basically an estimator that uses a plant model and a feedback loop with measured stator voltage and current. Simulation results show that the proposed direct field oriented control with the proposed observer provides good performance dynamic characteristics. The induction motor is fed by an indirect power electronics converter. This indirect converter is controlled by a sliding mode technique that enables minimization of harmonics introduced by the line converter, as well as the control of the power factor and DC-link voltage. The robustness of the overall system is studied using simulation for different operating modes and varied parameters. 展开更多

Voltage source converter high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) is a new power transmission technology pref- erable in small or medium power transmission. In this paper we discuss a new control system based on space vector modulation (SVM) without any voltage line sensors. Using direct power control (DPC) SVM and a new double synchronous reference frame phase-locked loop (DSRF-PLL) approach, the control system is resistant to the majority of line voltage disturbances. Also, the system response has accelerated by using a feed forward power decoupled loop. The operation of this control strategy was verified in a SIMULINK/MATLAB simulation environment. To validate this control system, a 5 kV.A prototype system was constructed. Compared to the original controllers, the current total harmonic distortion (THD), the active and reactive deviations and the DC voltage overshoot were lowered by 2.5%, 6.2% and 8%, respectively. The rectifier power factor in the worst condition was 0.93 and the DC voltage settling time was 0.2 s. 展开更多

This study describes a method for predicting and classifying oxygen-binding proteins. Firstly, support vector machine (SVM) modules were developed using amino acid composition and dipeptide composition for predicting oxygen-binding proteins, and achieved maximum accuracy of 85.5% and 87.8%, respectively. Secondly, an SVM module was developed based on amino acid composition, classifying the predicted oxygen-binding proteins into six classes with accuracy of 95.8%, 97.5%, 97.5%, 96.9%, 99.4%, and 96.0% for erythrocruorin, hemerythrin, hemocyanin, hemoglobin, leghemoglobin, and myoglobin proteins, respectively. Finally, an SVM module was developed using dipeptide composition for classifying the oxygen-binding proteins, and achieved maximum accuracy of 96.1%, 98.7%, 98.7%, 85.6%, 99.6%, and 93.3% for the above six classes, respectively. All modules were trained and tested by five-fold cross validation. Based on the above approach, a web server Oxypred was developed for predicting and classifying oxygen-binding proteins (available from http://www.imtech.res.in/raghava/oxypred/). 展开更多
