Integrated Equipment with Functions of Current Flow Control and Fault Isolation for Multiterminal DC Grids

The multi-terminal direct current(DC)grid has extinctive superiorities over the traditional alternating current system in integrating large-scale renewable energy.Both the DC circuit breaker(DCCB)and the current flow controller(CFC)are demanded to ensure the multiterminal DC grid to operates reliably and flexibly.However,since the CFC and the DCCB are all based on fully controlled semiconductor switches(e.g.,insulated gate bipolar transistor,integrated gate commutated thyristor,etc.),their separation configuration in the multiterminal DC grid will lead to unaffordable implementation costs and conduction power losses.To solve these problems,integrated equipment with both current flow control and fault isolation abilities is proposed,which shares the expensive and duplicated components of CFCs and DCCBs among adjacent lines.In addition,the complicated coordination control of CFCs and DCCBs can be avoided by adopting the integrated equipment in themultiterminal DC grid.In order to examine the current flow control and fault isolation abilities of the integrated equipment,the simulation model of a specific meshed four-terminal DC grid is constructed in the PSCAD/EMTDC software.Finally,the comparison between the integrated equipment and the separate solution is presented a specific result or conclusion needs to be added to the abstract. 展开更多

Growth and passivation of tunnels within Al foil by on-off controlling DC etching in 6 wt.% HCI solution has been investigated. It was found that, in a given etchant solution at a special temperature, the longest tunnel length was only a function of the turn-on interval of DC. The potential of Al foil broke at on-off controlling DC by the result from anode polarization curves and potential-time (E-t) responding curves. When DC was switched on, the potential increased abruptly over pitting potential, leading to nucleation of pits at the surface and the growth of tunnels at special length. When DC was switched off, the potential decreased rapidly to a passive value, leading to stoppage of nucleation and death of tunnels. By this way, the longest tunnel length can be controlled and a non-piercing layer can be obtained. Hence, etching of Al foil at this current is beneficial for maintaining a good mechanical strength. 展开更多

Frequency Regulation of Alternating Current Microgrid Based on Hierarchical Control Using Fuzzy Logic

An alternating current(AC)microgrid is a system that integrates renewable power,power converters,controllers and loads.Hierarchical control can manage the frequency of the microgrid to prevent imbalance and collapse of the system.The existing frequency control methods use traditional proportion integration(PI)controllers,which cannot adjust PI parameters in real-time to respond to the status changes of the system.Hierarchical control driven by fuzzy logic allows real-time adjustment of the PI parameters and the method used a two-layer control structure.The primary control used droop control to adjust power distribution,and fuzzy logic was used in the voltage loop of the primary control.The secondary control was added to make up for frequency deviation caused by droop control,and fuzzy logic was used in the secondary frequency control to deal with the dynamic change of frequency caused by the disturbances of loads.The proposed method was simulated in Matlab/Simulink.In the primary control,the proposed method reduced the total harmonic distortion(THD)of two cycles of the output voltage from 4.19%to 3.89%;in the secondary control,the proposed method reduced the frequency fluctuation of the system by about 0.03 Hz and 0.04 Hz when the load was increased and decreased,respectively.The results show that the proposed methods have a better effect on frequency maintenance and voltage control of the AC microgrid. 展开更多

Adaptive Droop Control for Circulating Current Suppression in Microgrid Based on Fuzzy Logic

Circulating currents in a microgrid increase the power loss of the microgrid, reduce the operational efficiency, as well as affect the power quality of the microgrid. The existing literature is seldom concerned with methods to suppress the loop currents using fuzzy logic control. In this paper, a method based on fuzzy control of droop coefficients is proposed to suppress the circulating currents inside the microgrid.The method combines fuzzy control with droop control and can achieve the effect of suppressing the circulating currents by adaptively adjusting the droop coefficients to make the power distribution between each subgrid more balanced. To verify the proposed method, simulation is carried out in Matlab/Simulink environment, and the simulation results show that the proposed method is significantly better than the traditional proportional-integral control method. The circulating currents reduce from about 10 A to several nanoamperes, the bus voltage and frequency drops are significantly improved, and the total harmonic distortion rate of the output voltage reduces from 4.66% to 1.06%. In addition, the method used in this paper can be extended to be applied in multiple inverters connected in parallel, and the simulation results show that the method has a good effect on the suppression of circulating currents among multiple inverters. 展开更多

Finite-control-set model predictive control(FCSMPC)has advantages of multi-objective optimization and easy implementation.To reduce the computational burden and switching frequency,this article proposed a simplified MPC for dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(DTPPMSM).The novelty of this method is the decomposition of prediction function and the switching optimization algorithm.Based on the decomposition of prediction function,the current increment vector is obtained,which is employed to select the optimal voltage vector and calculate the duty cycle.Then,the computation burden can be reduced and the current tracking performance can be maintained.Additionally,the switching optimization algorithm was proposed to optimize the voltage vector action sequence,which results in lower switching frequency.Hence,this control strategy can not only reduce the computation burden and switching frequency,but also maintain the steady-state and dynamic performance.The simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed strategy. 展开更多

The merits of compressed air energy storage(CAES)include large power generation capacity,long service life,and environmental safety.When a CAES plant is switched to the grid-connected mode and participates in grid regulation,using the traditional control mode with low accuracy can result in excess grid-connected impulse current and junction voltage.This occurs because the CAES output voltage does not match the frequency,amplitude,and phase of the power grid voltage.Therefore,an adaptive linear active disturbance-rejection control(A-LADRC)strategy was proposed.Based on the LADRC strategy,which is more accurate than the traditional proportional integral controller,the proposed controller is enhanced to allow adaptive adjustment of bandwidth parameters,resulting in improved accuracy and response speed.The problem of large impulse current when CAES is switched to the grid-connected mode is addressed,and the frequency fluctuation is reduced.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in reducing the impact of CAES on the grid connection was verified using a hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform.The influence of the k value in the adaptive-adjustment formula on the A-LADRC was analyzed through simulation.The anti-interference performance of the control was verified by increasing and decreasing the load during the presynchronization process. 展开更多

The boost converter feeding a constant power load (CPL) is a non-minimum phase system that is prone to the destabilizing effects of the negative incremental resistance of the CPL and presents a major challenge in the design of stabilizing controllers. A PWM-based current-sensorless robust sliding mode controller is developed that requires only the measurement of the output voltage. An extended state observer is developed to estimate a lumped uncertainty signal that comprises the uncertain load power and the input voltage, the converter parasitics, the component uncertainties and the estimation of the derivative of the output voltage needed in the implementation of the controller. A linear sliding surface is used to derive the controller, which is simple in its design and yet exhibits excellent features in terms of robustness to external disturbances, parameter uncertainties, and parasitics despite the absence of the inductor’s current feedback. The robustness of the controller is validated by computer simulations. 展开更多

The existenc e of discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation state requires the bias of in du ctor current for DBI implemented with linear controllers like ramp comparison SP WM (RCSPWM) controllers. A novel operation scheme for DBI and a hysteresis curre nt controlled dual buck half bridge inverter (HCDBI) are proposed. The bias curr ent required by RCSPWM DBI is eliminated and conduction losses are dramatically reduced. HCDBI has greatly improved the modulation performance in DCM region for the benefit of its excellent command tracking capability. The operational schem e and control strategy are presented. Power losses of the conventional half brid ge inverter (CHBI) and HCDBI are compared with mathematical computation, and exp erimental verification is also executed. Both calculational and experimental res ults verify that HCDBI has a superior switching performance over CHBI. In view of the current sensors failure in electric pitch system,a variable universe fuzzy fault tolerant control method of electric pitch control system based on single current detection is proposed.When there is single or two-current sensor fault occurs,based on the proposed method the missing current information can be reconstructed by using direct current(DC)bus current sensor and the three-phase current can be updated in time within any two adjacent sampling periods,so as to ensure stability of the closed-loop system.And then the switchover and fault tolerant control of fault current sensor would be accomplished by fault diagnosis method based on adaptive threshold judgment.For the reconstructed signal error caused by the modulation method and the main control target of electric pitch system,a variable universe fuzzy control method is used in the speed loop,which can improve the anti-disturbance ability to load variation,and the robustness of fault tolerance system.The results show that the fault tolerant control method makes the variable pitch control system still has ideal control characteristics in case of sensor failure although part of the system performance is lost,thus the correctness of the proposed method is verified. 展开更多

The proposed hybrid current control scheme integrates the deadbeat control and the dual-mode structure repetitive control (DMRC) so that it can offer superior steady-state performance and good transient features. Unlike the conventional schemes, the proposed scheme-based APF can compensate both the odd and the even order harmonics in grid. The detailed design criteria and the stability analysis of the proposed hybrid current controller are presented. Moreover, an improved structure which incorporates the proposed hybrid controller and the resonant controller for tracking specific order harmonics is given. The relationships between the resonant controller and different repetitive control schemes are discussed. A dynamics-based adaptive control approach is proposed for a planar dual-arm space robot in the presence of closed-loop constraints and uncertain inertial parameters of the payload. The controller is capable of controlling the po- sition and attitude of both the satellite base and the payload grasped by the manipulator end effectors. The equations of motion in reduced-order form for the constrained system are derived by incorporating the constraint equations in terms of accelerations into Kane's equations of the unconstrained system. Model analysis shows that the resulting equations perfectly meet the requirement of adaptive controller design. Consequently, by using an indirect approach, an adaptive control scheme is proposed to accomplish position/attitude trajectory tracking control with the uncertain parameters be- ing estimated on-line. The actuator redundancy due to the closed-loop constraints is utilized to minimize a weighted norm of the joint torques. Global asymptotic stability is proven by using Lyapunov's method, and simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

With the development of EAST, new demands on the new fast control power supply have led to an enhanced ability of fast response and output current, as well as a new control mode. The structure of cascaded and paralleled H-bridges can meet the demand of extended capacity, and digital control can reMize current and voltage mixed control mode. Aim at improving the stability of the Short-circuiting Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW-S) process for the enhanced speed usage, effects of current waveform parameters during short-term on the welding stability have been investigated by experimental method. The welding power source used for the research is an inverter with a special current waveform control. It is shown that the spatter decreases at first then increases with each increase of the low current period, current increase rate and the maximum current limit. The test results are provided for welding of 1 mm and 3 mm mild steel at speed of 1.2 m/min. The stable GMA W-S process under high speed welding condition has been achieved by optimizing the parameters. 展开更多

Design of general multivariable process controllers is an attractive and practical alternative to optimizing design by evolutionary algorithms (EAs) since it can be formulated as an optimization problem. A closed-loop particle swarm optimization (CLPSO) algorithm is proposed by mapping PSO elements into the closed-loop system based on control theories. At each time step, a proportional integral (PI) controller is used to calculate an updated inertia weight for each particle in swarms from its last fitness. With this modification, limitations caused by a uniform inertia weight for the whole population are avoided, and the particles have enough diversity. After the effectiveness, efficiency and robustness are tested by benchmark functions, CLPSO is applied to design a multivariable proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for a solvent dehydration tower in a chemical plant and has improved its performances. 展开更多

Nonlinear loads in the power distribution system cause non-sinusoidal currents and voltages with harmonic components.Shunt active filters(SAF) with current controlled voltage source inverters(CCVSI) are usually used to obtain balanced and sinusoidal source currents by injecting compensation currents.However,CCVSI with traditional controllers have a limited transient and steady state performance.In this paper,we propose an adaptive dynamic programming(ADP) controller with online learning capability to improve transient response and harmonics.The proposed controller works alongside existing proportional integral(PI) controllers to efficiently track the reference currents in the d-q domain.It can generate adaptive control actions to compensate the PI controller.The proposed system was simulated under different nonlinear(three-phase full wave rectifier) load conditions.The performance of the proposed approach was compared with the traditional approach.We have also included the simulation results without connecting the traditional PI control based power inverter for reference comparison.The online learning based ADP controller not only reduced average total harmonic distortion by 18.41%,but also outperformed traditional PI controllers during transients. 展开更多

For a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM)model predictive current control(MPCC)system,when the speed loop adopts proportional-integral(PI)control,speed regulation is easily affected by motor parameters,resulting in the inability to balance the system robustness and dynamic performance.A PMSM optimal control strategy combining linear active disturbance rejection control(LADRC)and two-vector MPCC(TV-MPCC)is proposed.Firstly,a mathematical model of a PMSM is presented,and the PMSM TV-MPCC model is developed in the synchronous rotation coordinate system.Secondly,a first-order LADRC controller composed of a linear extended state observer and linear state error feedback is designed to reduce the complexity of parameter tuning while linearly simplifying the traditional active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)structure.Finally,the conventional PI speed regulator in the motor speed control system is replaced by the designed LADRC controller.The simulation results show that the speed control system using LADRC can effectively deal with the changes in motor parameters and has better robustness and dynamic performance than PI control and similar methods.The system has a fast motor speed response,small overshoot,strong anti-interference,and no steady-state error,and the total harmonic distortion is reduced. 展开更多

A model predictive current control(MPCC)with adaptive-adjusting method of timescales for permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSMs)is proposed in this paper to improve the dynamic response and prediction accuracy in transient-state,while lessening the computational burden and improving the control performance in steady-state.The timescale characteristics of different parts of MPCC,such as signal sampling,prediction calculation,control output,model error correction,are analyzed,and the algorithm architecture of MPCC with multi-timescale is proposed.The difference between reference and actual speed,and the change rate of actual speed are utilized to discriminate the transient state of speed change and load change,respectively.Adaptive-adjusting method of control period and prediction stepsize are illustrated in detail after operation condition discrimination.Experimental results of a PMSM are presented to validate the effectiveness of proposed MPCC.In addition,comparative evaluation of single-step MPCC with fixed timescale and proposed MPCC is conducted,which demonstrates the superiority of proposed control strategy. 展开更多
